Coat Types
of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi
Standard Coat
The standard coat for Corgis is the most traditional look. They have a medium length; short, thick, weather- resistant undercoat with a coarser, longer outer coat. This coat meets AKC standard for show and is able to be shown for confirmation. A natural double coat does mean they will shed seasonally. Below are some examples of our standard coat corgis.
Fluffy Coat
Fluffy Coat Corgis, sometimes called glamour coats, have a lush; soft, longer fur. This is a recessive gene, NOT a mixed breed. AKC does recognize the fluffy corgi trait however; as this is a herding breed, fluff is considered a serious fault and therefore cannot be shown for AKC confirmation. Fluffy corgis CAN participate in all other AKC actives. While fluffy coat corgis do shed less than the standard coat they are not hypoallergenic. Below are some examples of ur fluffy coat corgis.
Color Progression
of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi
According to the AKC there are 4 colors of Pembroke Welsh Corgis: red, sable, fawn, and tri. The AKC groups all variations of tri colors as one.
There can be a few other variations of color dependent on recessive genes that some corgis can carry. These colors are not accepted for AKC confirmation however there are no defects or genetic disordered associated with these colors.
